August 2020 Bulletin

First broadcast November 2nd 1936
Hornsey Pensioners protest at the Alexandra Palace TV Tower

5.4 million people aged over 75 are now expected to pay the TV licence on August 1st or be cut off.  It costs £157.50 per year. You will receive a bill through the post. Ignore other communications – BEWARE SCAMS!

The concessionary TV licence is still available to those on Pension Credit.  If you are finding it difficult to make ends meet,  apply for pension credit now!

According to the Government, more than three million households are eligible for pension credit, but four out of 10 fail to claim the benefit – in many cases because they don’t realise they’re entitled to it.

Find the AgeUK advice on how to apply. https://www.ageuk.org.uk/our-impact/campaigning/save-free-tv-for-older-people/

How do I claim Pension Credit?

First make sure you’ve reached the qualifying age.

It only takes one phone call and you won’t have to fill in a form. Call the Pension Credit claim line on 0800 99 1234 (textphone: 0800 169 0133). They will fill in the application for you over the phone. It’ll be quicker if you have the following details to hand: National Insurance number, Bank account details, Information about your income, savings and investments, Details of any housing costs (such as mortgage, interest payments, service charges), Partner’s details (if you have a partner)

Free TV Licence for over 75’s to end from August 1st!

How come the BBC has to foot the bill for what is a universal pensioner benefit – the over 75’s Concessionary TV licence?

A group of Hornsey Pensioners opposing the loss of the over 75’s TV licence will stand in protest outside the BBC Television Tower at Alexandra Palace from 11.00 to 11.30 on Thursday July 30th.

See the National Pensioners Convention press release and petitions to be signed. NPC urge you to sign and share the Age UK petition online at
